Battle of the Face Masks

Hi Loves,

Even though this has been a very odd winter thus far the wind has not been great for my skin. I realized that I’ve collected a few different face masks recently that all look amazing, so I’ve decided to pin them against each other to see which one I like the best. So here is what you need to know about my skin before we get into this. I have combination skin, oily T zone, but my cheeks and around my mouth tend to get very dry. I use the Ponds moisturizer almost every night after I wash my face, but I won’t be using that after these masks unless the instructions direct me to use a moisturizer after. All of these products are available at Sephora and I will have links and prices below.I tried a different mask each night over 4 days to see how they felt, what they smell like, and how they changed my skin (if at all).

The first mask I tried was the Sephora brand Algae Sleeping Mask. I was not sure how it would work, it feels like a gel and had a blue tint to it, and it smells like plants but in a good way. In the morning my skin felt soft and smooth, where I had inflammation the night before was reduced and my skin looked a bit brighter. I was very happy with the product until later that day my eye started watering from the wind, then things got bad. The left over product on my skin got into my eye and OH! Did it burn! On the package it says to wipe off excess in the morning if needed, but because there was not any product still wet on my face in the morning I thought I was okay. As good as this product felt I would say definitely use a warm cloth in the morning to wipe the mask off before you continue on with your day. They don’t sell this exact mask in the sleeping mask, but they have it in a sheet mask.

The next mask I tried out was the KORRES Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial. Upon first glance this one looks more like a moisturizer, that white cream look, and it smells like grandma perfume, that kind of old woman rose scent. When you put it on it doesn’t sink into your skin right away, it almost feels waxy after you apply it and it drys. Kind of a weird texture but I went with it. In the morning when I felt my skin it had all been absorbed and my skin felt amazingly smooth and hydrated. This mask won me over, and there were no painful tears the next day.

The third mask I tried was the Fresh Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask. This one had me the most skeptical at the start, the cream inside looks like its gone bad, it’s an off white color like it has been sitting in the open air. It smells like cucumbers which makes you feel like you’re at a spa. This one isn’t an overnight mask, you only leave it on for 5-10 minutes then rinse it off. I will say that while I was waiting the 5-10 minutes to rinse it off I felt tingling around my lips, so I would suggest avoiding your lips while using this mask. That is definitely a sensitive area for me, so if you have sensitive skin the acid in this mask may be too harsh for your skin. After rinsing it off my skin felt really nice and even the next day it felt smooth.

The final mask I tried out was the Ole Henriksen Power Bright 3-Step System. Technically only the first step is the face mask part, but because I have the steps two and three I’m going to use them as recommended. The whole time all I smelled were oranges and it was so refreshing and relaxing. All three steps are different versions of face masks and they all feel amazing. Each has kind of a warming sensation to it and the final step warns that you may feel a tingling sensation. After all three steps my skin feels like it’s been polished. It feels so soft and smooth and moisturized. I am VERY impressed.

Ole Henriksen step 1

So my over all winner for this would have to be the KORRES Sleeping Facial. It did an amazing job of hydrating my skin and making it feel smooth and supple. Also I didn’t have to put as much work in as I did with the Ole Henriksen. The Power Bright comes in second place because while it does work wonders, it also over all takes 45 minutes to do and I don’t always have that kind of time. Third place is the Fresh Black Tea Mask the tingling around my lips was a bit uncomfortable to put up with for 5 minutes, but it left my skin very hydrated. Then finally the Sephora Algae Mask in last place. I would repurchase three out of the four masks, the Sephora mask I’m mixed about. I feel like I want to try it again but wipe it off in the morning, I’d like to see how this effects my skin for the rest of the day. Will it stay as soft?

Thank you so much for sticking to the end of this review. I hope the information I gave you is helpful to you when selecting your next face mask. Let me know if you’ve tried out any of the masks I spoke about, or if you have any recommendations for masks I must try!

Love,

Me/E
